Monitoring and advising Districts in the implementation of economic development programs.

ECONOMICS

Monitoring the implementation of the following activities in the districts:

  • Promoting modern agriculture, with emphasis on irrigation programs; land consolidation focusing on selected priority crops; and the use of agricultural inputs such as improved seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides.
  • Promoting modern livestock farming, focusing on improving the breeds of traditional livestock to increase milk production, developing milk collection centers, promoting beef cattle farming; fish farming and fisheries; poultry farming and hatcheries; as well as pig farming.
  • Adding value to agricultural and livestock products.
  • Promoting exports (export promotion).
  • Promoting investment, trade, and tourism.
  • Developing infrastructure such as roads, water supply, electricity, and others.
  • Promoting advanced information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure.
  • Promoting handicrafts, cooperatives, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
  • Supporting citizens to access markets for their products and creating non-agricultural jobs.
  • Promoting financial services (Umurenge SACCOs, microfinance institutions, and banks).
  • Promoting environmental protection activities such as tree planting, use of biogas, solar energy, improved cooking stoves, and others.
  • Promoting planned settlements based on master plans in both rural and urban areas, including the IDP Model Villages program.
  • Developing industrial zones.
  • Promoting Musanze City as a secondary city supporting the City of Kigali.
  • Promoting tourism and supporting hospitality services such as hotels.
